SAM Organization for Rights and Liberties reported that it has received an urgent distress call from the family of lawyer Abdulmajid Sabrah, who has been arbitrarily detained for 76 days in Houthi-run prisons after being taken from his office by forces affiliated with the group on 25 September 2025.

According to his family, Sabrah informed them in a brief phone call that he had begun a hunger strike after being returned to solitary confinement and denied visitation, amid what the family described as a serious deterioration in his health. In his latest call, Sabrah said:
“I am on hunger strike… they put me back in solitary… I am exhausted, Walid.”

The family added that the Security and Intelligence Authority in Sana’a did not request any guarantees or commitments from him, making his continued detention and the deprivation of his basic rights legally unjustifiable.

SAM held the authorities in Sana’a fully responsible for his safety, calling for his immediate release, allowing his family and lawyer to visit him, granting him urgent medical care, and ending the violations he is subjected to.

The organization also urged the United Nations, Special Rapporteurs, and international human rights bodies to take swift action to save his life before it is too late.
