On Saturday, SAM Organization for Rights and Liberties held a focus group session in the city of Hays, Al-Hodeidah Governorate, to discuss human rights violations and key aspects of transitional justice in Yemen. The session was attended by several victims, activists concerned with transitional justice, and other relevant stakeholders.
During the session, discussions focused on the challenges facing the achievement of transitional justice and sustainable peace.
Participants also addressed several pressing issues, including the suffering of the abducted and forcibly disappeared, institutional reform, psychological rehabilitation for victims, the importance of balancing reconciliation and accountability, and the role of civil society organizations in raising public awareness and promoting transitional justice concepts.
The session concluded with several key recommendations, including:
Strengthening the role of government bodies in supporting victims,
Enabling civil society organizations to play an active role in awareness and support,
Building the capacities of judges, journalists, and security agencies on transitional justice principles,
Exerting international pressure to end the war, support the economy, and promote reconstruction,
Involving marginalized groups—especially women and internally displaced persons (IDPs)—in transitional justice mechanisms.
This session comes as part of SAM Organization’s ongoing efforts to promote transitional justice processes and seek fair and equitable solutions for victims in Yemen.
