SAM Organization for Rights and Liberties held an extensive hearing session today in the city of Taiz to discuss the issue of homes that were occupied during the years of war. The event was part of the project “Supporting Peace in Yemen through Accountability, Reconciliation, and Knowledge Exchange (SPARK),” funded by the D.T. Institute and implemented in partnership with the Association of Mothers of Abductees.

The session was dedicated to presenting live testimonies from several victims who lost their homes due to displacement or unlawful seizure. Participants expressed their prolonged suffering and the resulting psychological, economic, and social impacts, emphasizing their need for realistic solutions that would restore their properties and preserve their dignity.

The SAM team presented a field report addressing patterns of violations against private property during the war and highlighted the main challenges victims face in accessing justice amid the absence of effective accountability mechanisms and poor coordination among official entities.

The session was attended by representatives of local authorities, judges, legal experts, affected homeowners, and members of civil society organizations. All participants stressed the importance of resolving these pending cases, warning that their persistence threatens social peace. They also called for legal and judicial measures to address these issues as a fundamental step toward community reconciliation and rebuilding trust after years of division and conflict.
